Cane components / buyer checklist
Check a cane-tip sample
before a bulk order.
Evaluate the proposed tip on the intended shaft against an agreed specification. Record the connection, dimensions, materials, assembly and packaging before approving the version for an order.
1. Identify the sample and its intended use
Record the product reference, drawing revision and the sample received. Describe the cane or assembly it is intended for and the use requirements. A sample that looks similar to an existing part may have a different connection or construction.
Keep decorative presentation separate from requirements for a support product. If a claimed performance matters to the order, identify the applicable requirement and evidence before approval. This checklist is a purchasing aid, not a safety test or certification procedure.
2. Check the connection before comparing the base
Identify a push-on socket, threaded fitting or assembled base connection. Measure the shaft where the part is fitted and label the measurement in a drawing or photograph. For threaded parts, include the mating thread details; the shaft diameter alone is not enough.
Separate shaft outside diameter, socket opening, base footprint and overall height. They describe different features and should not share an unlabelled “size” field. A used or flexible socket can also differ from its original shape. See the measurement guide for the distinction between these dimensions.
3. Compare the sample with a written record
| Check | Record | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Attachment method, shaft and mating dimensions, units. | Does the proposed connection match the intended shaft and agreed drawing? |
| Part dimensions | Labelled opening, footprint, height and other agreed dimensions. | Which features have specified acceptance limits? |
| Construction | Body, contact material and separate components. | Do the material descriptions refer to the correct part? |
| Assembly and appearance | Assembly observations, finish reference, photographs. | Does this version match the agreed appearance and assembly requirements? |
| Packaging | Pack quantity, label, product reference and pack layout. | Can the ordered version be identified and packed as agreed? |
Agree the acceptance limits that matter to your application. This guide does not supply a universal tolerance, material grade, pull-off force, load rating or slip-resistance threshold. Those cannot be inferred from a photograph, a nominal fitting label or a successful visual check.
4. Distinguish inspection from performance evidence
Dimensions, appearance and an assembly check answer different questions from product performance. If the purchase depends on a particular load, durability, friction or regulatory requirement, ask what product-specific evidence is required and available. Check which model, material, configuration and test conditions the documentation covers.
A certificate or report for another part or configuration should not be treated as evidence for the proposed sample. If suitable evidence is not available, record the gap before deciding how to proceed. Do not label the sample approved for an unverified use.
5. Confirm the approved version and order terms
Give the approved sample and drawing a reference that both parties can identify. Record any differences from the catalogue, together with packaging, inspection needs and the agreed commercial terms. Confirm whether subsequent changes require a revised sample or documentation review.
Sample acceptance does not establish live stock, a fixed MOQ or a production date. Review the sample and ordering guide and have the quotation identify quantities, charges, schedule and delivery terms for the actual order.
Questions to send with your sample review
- Which dimension and connection does the catalogue size describe?
- Which body and contact materials are proposed for this version?
- Which drawing and sample version will the order use?
- Which acceptance checks and supporting documents are agreed?
- Are packaging, sample charges, MOQ and schedule included in the quotation?
Use the same SKU or project reference when discussing these questions. Browse cane tips, ferrules and bases, or send the dimensions and order brief for a quotation and sample discussion.
